“Nobody Likes Her”: Claressa Shields Draws The Ire of Fans By Comparing Herself to Floyd Mayweather And Muhammad Ali

Since time immemorial, boxers strive to not just win world titles but also endeavor to leave their mark on the sport. The history of boxing is replete with legendary fighters who transcended the sport. Moreover, Muhammad Ali and Floyd Mayweather are two stalwarts that have achieved this in the realm of boxing. Their larger-than-life personality outside the ring captivated the fans, and their impeccable skills inside the squared circle fascinated the public.

Boxers of today have a vehement ambition to achieve a similar level of legacy. The undisputed middleweight champion, Claressa Shields, aims to be on par with them by the time she retires. Shields is regarded as one of the greatest female boxers of all time. However, ahead of her fight with Maricelo Cornejo, she expressed her desire to be considered the best boxer period. @Boxingsocial on Twitter reported Shields’s comments, She states, “I want to be the best fighter ever before I retire. I am one of the best boxers in the world, Male or female. I think it’s Muhammad Ali, Floyd Mayweather, me.”

It cannot be denied that she is a force to be reckoned with and is aware of the same. However, comparing herself to Mayweather and Ali is debatable. Her bold and outspoken comments ignited opinions from the fans.

The fans were quick to react to her recent comments. One fan named Bobby despised the comments made by her. This stuff is why nobody likes her”

Another fan named Owen Mitchell finds her comments to be untrue and gives his reason for it. “If this were true, she wouldn’t have to continually reinforce its credibility. The opinions of others would do that instead.”

One fan is of the opinion that the comparison is unreasonable: “Women’s boxing and men’s boxing are two completely different sports.”

Along similar lines, a fan named Marco considers Shields to be impressive, but her comments are far-fetched. He stated, The only time fans remember Clarissa Shields during a conversation, is when she starts talking. She has an impressive resume no doubt, but women’s boxing is kinda of weak”

Lastly, one fan named Tom Parry expressed his disdain for the undefeated boxer. He states, “Remember when the best women tennis player in the world serena Williams played against the number 200 man in the world and got beat in every point!? Claressa shields mentioning her name amongst the greatest is a joke! Makes me sick! I can’t watch her no more!”
