Only three days ago, Subriel Matias signed a deal with Matchroom and DAZN Boxing. Following the deal, Matias, the current IBF Super-Lightweight champion, declared he would “show all the big names” that he was the best 140-pounder. In the wake of this statement by Matias, Eddie Hearn requested Teofimo Lopez to test his skills against the Puerto Rican.

At this, while Eddie Hearn bragged about having signed Matias, Oscar De La Hoya also made a huge announcement. The CEO of Golden Boy Promotions revealed that they welcomed the no. 1 WBC-ranked Super-Welterweight to their team.

Charles Conwell is currently 18-0-0. Before turning pro in 2017, Conwell represented Team USA at the Rio Olympics 2016. Provided Conwell’s performances, De La Hoya believed Charles possessed power and ring presence. In his opinion, being “an Olympic pedigree“, Conwell is also prepared to face any kind of pressure in the boxing ring. Therefore, following the deal, Oscar assured the fans that they would have Charles fight often and against tough boxers in the sport.

Later, taking to Instagram, De La Hoya, who disliked Usher’s performance at the Super Bowl LVIII, wrote, “The undefeated, #1 WBC-ranked super-welterweight signed a multi-fight promotional deal with Golden Boy Promotions! Help us Welcome @charlesconwell to the GBP family!!” In addition, the promoter announced that Conwell would eventually chase world titles with GBP. Meanwhile, Charles, who has won the IBF USBA Super-Welterweight and the WBC USA Super-Welterweight titles, thanked De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions.
