Former two-division champion Roy Jones Jr. believes he can assist Anthony Joshua to regain his lost dominance in the heavyweight division. Joshua fell prey to Usyk’s sleek movements and suffered a lopsided unanimous decision defeat in September 2021, losing his heavyweight straps. What became more hurtful was all of it happened in Anthony Joshua’s hometown, London.

Now, AJ can revive himself only after settling the odds with Usyk in a rematch. 24-2 as a professional, Joshua has vowed to do so in several media interactions. But it’s hard to picture him dominating Usyk, especially after witnessing AJ’s last performance. That said, Roy Jones Jr. is willing to pass on his lessons to the Brit superstar that can help him topple Usyk.

In a chat with Behind The Gloves, ‘Captain Hook,’ said, “Of course. I mean, AJ is a great fighter, a great talent, just needs to be taught a few more tricks of the trade which I know. And of course, I would train. I would love to train. He is a good guy, people love him. He kind of reminds me a lot of myself as far as how people feel about it.”

While Jones Jr. believes he has a lot of similarities with Anthony Joshua, we can say the same about Oleksandr Usyk and ‘Captain Hook’. Akin to Usyk, Jones Jr. had also become a world champion at cruiserweight and heavyweight back in the days.

So he seems aware of the tactics that can help AJ tackle Usyk. Because Roy Jones Jr. was also a technical A-lister, the same feature which Oleksandr Usyk possesses.

AJ revived himself brilliantly to win after suffering his maiden career defeat against Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2019. The immediate rematch saw Joshua offer a commendable performance, regaining his heavyweight title back. Usyk battered Joshua technically and moved well for all 12 rounds. Surprisingly, Anthony Joshua didn’t offer his knockout power and kept responding to Usyk’s movements. It didn’t work well for him. But AJ seems to have learned from the mistakes and can expect himself to beat Usyk this time.
