Things are finally looking onwards and upwards for a 24-year-old Russian boxer, Ilya Medvedev, who suffered a major injury in October. Medvedev, along with his friend, was attacked by a bear in Russia’s Tyumen region and ended up suffering horrific injuries.

He was subsequently in an artificial coma because of the veracity of the injuries he suffered during the bear attack. However, his friend, Vyacheslav ‘Slava’ Dudnik, didn’t make it out of the ordeal alive and was slashed to death.

Remarkably, the 24-year-old boxer put his fighting spirit on full display and ended up stabbing the bear to death.

Chiefly, it was his instinct to ward off the slashing beast that saved his life, albeit left him with several disfigurements. In the end, eyewitness Denis Chebotar brought the Russian boxer to the hospital where he has since made a recovery.

Ilya Medvedev is finally on the mend

The young pugilist recently appeared publicly for the first time since his harrowing attack during a fishing trip. He was spotted with 2012 Olympic gold medalist Egor Mekhontsev who labeled Medvedev as a ‘real hero’ following this ordeal. Mekhontsev shared a picture of Ilya Medvedev, where the extent of his facial injuries were on full display.

Ilya Medvedev is reportedly set to undergo facial reconstruction surgery in order to aid in the recovery of his facial damage. It’s clear that the attack was extremely debilitating on the 24-year-old who was forced into a drug-induced coma because of the injuries. However, the timeline surrounding his facial reconstruction surgery is unknown.

One thing is for sure, Ilya Medvedev will have many supporters from now on in his life and career. Under tremendous duress, he showed he will rise above and protect himself from an almost certain lethal experience.

He is being lauded by several individuals within the boxing fraternity who theorize that boxing helped his natural instincts.

He single-handedly stabbed the bear with lethal effect and the raging animal died not long after. The stabbing of the bear was done to its vital organs and was perhaps the only reason Medvedev now lives to tell the tale.
