Boxing has always been a sport that has had its fair share of controversies, but one thing that most fighters agree on is that betting your purse against your opponent’s is a bad idea. Despite this Lightweight contender, Ryan Garcia and WBA regular champion Gervonta Davis decided to bet their entire purse in a winner take all bet ahead of the fight.
The bet was made on a live stream featuring streamer Kai Cenat. In the stream, Davis asks Garcia to bet the entire purse of the fight to which the latter agrees. However, former UFC Conor McGregor recently spoke out against this practice, stating that it never happens. Moreover, he also criticized the young boxers for making such a rash decision.

‘The Notorious’ took to Twitter and asked the question of whether these types of bets actually follow through. He also stated that fighting involves a lot of luck and the fighters should not bet their entire purses on fate. This was not all, as he took some shots at the fighters as well, calling the practice ‘stupid’.

“Has any competing fighters bet their purse against each other and then followed thru? We should stop doing this. Fighting is tough. It can go anyway. Luck plays a hell of a part. Don’t be saying you are betting your fight purse against each other. Because it never happens. And it’s stupid. Train hard. Fight hard. Earn your dough. And then enjoy it. God bless” he wrote.

McGregor’s comments are not without merit. Betting your purse against your opponent’s is a risky move that could potentially leave a fighter with nothing if they lose. However, Garcia seems to be taking a different approach. In his eyes, if both fighters are willing to bet their purse against each other, then there’s no harm in doing so.

In a recent interview with FightHype.com, ‘Kingry’ responded to the former UFC champion’s message. He claimed that although he respected McGregor’s take, he was a man of his word and will follow through with a promise he had made if Davis also agrees to it.

It’s easy to see both sides of the argument. On one hand, betting your purse against your opponent’s is a high-risk move that could leave a fighter with nothing. On the other hand, it could add an extra element of excitement to the fight and show that the fighters are willing to put everything on the line. Ultimately, it’s up to each fighter to decide whether they want to bet their purse against their opponent’s. However, it’s important to remember that the outcome of a fight is never certain, and luck can play a huge role in the result.
