The terms between Ryan Garcia and Oscar De La Hoya were never the same after the Gervonta Davis fight last year. The days leading to Garcia’s fight with Oscar Duarte even saw the troubled relationship flare out in the open. Now, how would it appear if a third angle meddled itself with an already stretched association?

The growing friendship between Garcia and Floyd Mayweather Jr. had already been a news headline. On the other hand, relations between Oscar De La Hoya and Mayweather Jr. have always been strained. Thus, the growing closeness of the charge with an archrival ended up only adding more stress to the apparent fault lines. In the latest bare-your-soul interview, Ryan Garcia revealed where his relations with ‘The Golden Boy’ stood and, more visibly, where the latter marked off from ‘TBE’.

So Patrick Bet-David pulled out the now famous ‘Pre-run with Floyd’ tweet from Oscar De La Hoya. He wanted to understand whether Garcia and ‘The Golden Boy’ had attended to the matter. ‘KingRy’ first encapsulated wherein the problem stood in his relationship with Oscar De La Hoya. However, all this happened over a regular conversation with a person whose judgment he values a lot. Hence, there’s no reason for ‘The Golden Boy to hit the roof. Then he generously doled out in detail reasons why he appreciated the association with Mayweather Jr.

One won the gold medal and the other silver: a disparate tale

Bet-David asked, what’s the biggest difference between Oscar De la Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr.? “Oscar is getting to the point where he’s being his truest self—you know, goofy crazy and whatever he wants to be—and just kind of trying to be living in truth,” said Garcia. But he emphasized, “Floyd’s always been living the truth; he’s real as it comes. You know, that’s the difference, I would say.

Then he took some time describing how both the former world champion and now-promoters worked. However, Garcia did clarify when Bet-David raised the question of promotions. He made it clear that he takes Mayweather Jr.’s words as friendly counsel. Hence, the latter is not trying to act as his promoter.

But Ryan Garcia did have something to say about his promoter. He stressed, “Oscar had a lot of potential. I think Oscar just didn’t reach his fullest potential. Why do you think he let all the sh*t get to him? This sh*t is bullsh*t. All the fame, all the money, all the girls—all that is bullsh*t. There’s only one purpose, and that’s God.
