Ryan Garcia, who moves undefeated in the lightweight division of boxing, will face the biggest challenge of his career on April 22nd against the WBA title holder Gervonta Davis. Despite having a clean sheet and a vivid reach advantage against Davis, in this fight, Garcia has been considered an underdog by many. Davis has repeatedly fought and controlled taller and bigger opponents in the ring. Provided his performances in boxing, a number of boxing fans, over Garcia, have preferred Davis.

In his recent interview with ESNEWS, Ryan Garcia spoke about how important his fight against ‘Tank’ Davis is. In a bold statement, he even compared his upcoming fight to Sonny Liston vs. Muhammad Ali. Just as Ali entered as an underdog to fight Liston in the ring, Garcia believes he will face Davis. On being asked how important the bout on 22nd April was to him, Garcia replied by saying, “It’s the most important. This is the start. You know this is like when Muhammad Ali when he fought Sonny Liston. They had him as [an] underdog. Put me as an underdog, [it] just might be the last time you put me as an underdog.”

Ryan Garcia plans to knockout Gervonta Davis while alluding to Muhammad Ali vs. Sonny Liston in boxing

In the 6th round of the first fight between Liston and Ali, Liston, dominated by Ali, refused to return to the center of the ring. Whereas, in the second fight, as recorded by BoxRec, at 2:12 on the clock of the first round, Liston was knocked out by Ali. Garcia wants to approach his fight the same way Ali approached his against Liston in the ring. Thus, while alluding to Ali, Garcia declared that he is also aiming for a knockout against Davis.

“Yes, I’ve already seen his head when he was in front of me. He has the biggest head I think I’ve ever seen on a human. I’mma knock him out. I’mma hit him right in the temple,” Garcia, who questioned Davis’ will to compete, added by saying.
