“Same Terms as for December”: George Warren Breaks Down Their Approach to Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury

George Warren of Queensberry Promotions has publicly confirmed they are once again in the process of staging Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury. In his recent interview with Dev Sahni, Warren revealed how they have approached the bout. Last year, Joshua did not meet Fury’s deadline and the bout initially planned for December 3 was canceled.
Although Joshua agreed to a 60/40 split, the former unified heavyweight champion could not get his legal terms right. With Joshua out, Fury then squared off against Derek Chisora in a trilogy fight on December 3. In a recent Instagram post, Fury declared that he sent a “draft contract” to Joshua and urged him to sign it. George Warren has clarified how much of the Fury vs. ‘AJ’ news is true and where they stand with it.

In his conversation with Dev Sahni, George Warren declared that “on the back of knowing” the Oleksandr Usyk bout would not take place, they “were preparing a bid“. They wondered about the “biggest fights” they could possibly stage involving Fury. Gradually, Anthony Joshua was suggested for ‘The Gypsy King’ and Warren mailed Eddie Hearn an offer. “Long story short. I spoke with Tyson on Monday. Obviously, on the back of knowing by then the Usyk bout wasn’t going to be happening. And we were preparing a bid,” Warren said.
“Questions were put to us. What are the biggest fights possible that we can make? AJ’s name came up in that conversation. It’s a huge fight and the instructions were quite clear. So, the following morning put an email over to Eddie and made an offer,” Frank Warren’s son added. Additionally, Warren informed that Fury vs. Joshua would contain the exact terms earlier discussed for December 2022.

Last year, Joshua, trying to make sure he got his legal terms right, failed to meet Fury’s deadline. As a result, the potential bout was called off. Subsequently, the incident led Fury to accuse Joshua of lacking the minerals to face ‘The Gypsy King’. However, Warren has assured the media that they are looking for the same terms discussed earlier and feel “ready to go“. “Same terms as for December. We’re ready to go. Tyson wants it to happen, and so do we,” he concluded.
