Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “I’m officially retiring from the sport of boxing.” This announcement has sent shockwaves through the boxing world. In an interview with FightHype.com when the interviewer asked him questions about Shakur Stevenson’s retirement, he stated, “Listen, he retire- you keep asking questions- and if you want him to come out- do you want him to come out of retirement?” The interviewer expressed a desire for Stevenson to come out of retirement and wished for Stevenson to face Vasyl Lomachenko. To this, Haney told him to “stop asking questions.”

This is interesting to witness as previously after Stevenson’s fight with De Los Santos, Garcia had called his fight “boring” and had written, “best night of sleep I’ve ever had.” It appears that despite the rivalry, Garcia doesn’t want the budding career of the lightweight champion to end like this.
