Teddy Atlas Breaks Down Why Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford Are Not Fighting Each Other

It’s time for the welterweight division to unify their titles by setting up a mega-fight between the unbeaten champions in Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr.
Both the champions have outclassed their rivals in recent times in a commendable fashion. Crawford knocked out Brook to defend his WBO strap, and Spence Jr. took out Danny Garcia in an electrifying return.
While the two should lock horns in 2021, Errol Spence Jr. seems to have lost interest in ‘Bud’. He recently desired to face Canelo Alvarez, ruling out a fight with Terence Crawford from his priority list.

However, boxing fans might not sit well with it. They have desired for the welterweight thriller between ‘The Truth’ and ‘Bud’ for a long time. So, it makes little sense to be deprived of the contest.
Boxing trainer Teddy Atlas newly shed his opinion on the entire scenario and predicted fan’s reaction.
Speaking on Errol Spence Jr’s comments, Atlas said, “I understand the fans out there. Some of them are going to say that by doing that maybe he doesn’t want the fight because he is going to make it difficult.”
He added, “Fans on Crawford’s side are probably going to say, ‘Hey he is out much, instead of 50-50 then maybe he doesn’t want to fight.”
Errol Spence Jr. and his unlimited options
While Crawford seems to be ready for the fight, Spence Jr has shown little interest. He has several other options ahead, but a fight with ‘Bud’ makes the most sense.
Amid all, Canelo Alvarez is still irrelevant to the mix, as the Mexican is already in the super middleweight division. He has his own title ride with possible opponents, and Errol Spence Jr. might not allure the 168 lbs champion.

Talking about it, Atlas said, “He (Errol Spence Jr.) mentioned of course before he got off, he mentioned he would like to fight Canelo. So, that gives even more fuel to the fire. That maybe he doesn’t want the Crawford fight, or he doesn’t think it could be made when he wants it to be made.
“He is looking at his options and he is trying to build those options and talking about a Canelo super-fight where he could retire,” added Teddy Atlas.
