Finally, after days of allegations, counter-allegations, leaks, and counter-leaks, a somber move. He is very much a part of the quartet if it could be called so, involved in the fight-talk quandary. After waiting, he decided to take the bull by the horns.

Ryan Garcia shared an hour ago that he has counseled his team to reach out to Team Devin Haney to formalize the next bout between the two. A few minutes later, addressing the new WBC light welterweight champion, he said that now the decision was his to make. By taking the necessary steps, he has displayed his seriousness about the big fight. The new maneuver follows after talks of an early fight with Rolando Romero or a rematch with Gervonta Davis emerged. It didn’t take much time for ‘The Dream’ to acknowledge his long-time rival’s message.

Then he told ‘The Dream’ that the choice was his to make. From his end, the account is settled, as he has laid out how much he cares about their match.

The move comes in the wake of a bitter-slanging match between the Haney and Davis camps over a fight offer. The two sides were already at loggerheads, right from the run-up to the post-Regis Prograis fight.

Lead-ups so far

The story pivoted to a different angle with the Baltimorean’s claim of receiving a $20 million fight offer from Team Haney. The latter accepted extending such a deal. However, they have been maintaining that Davis wants to avoid a fight with Devin Haney. The WBA lightweight champion has reportedly blocked and stopped communications with the other side.

In comparison, the Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney line-up appears to be an easy job. The two have known each other since their amateur days. There are even rumors of both participating in six bouts, with the outcome falling in each other’s favor equitably. Soon after concluding the Duarte business, ‘KingRy’, while speaking to the media, spoke about the options in front of him to pick.

He mentioned a tentative March return. Among the first names he mentioned was the sprightly Rolando Romero. A week later, Devin Haney’s success at the Chase Center propelled him to new-found star status in boxing. Even he sounded optimistic about fighting Ryan Garcia during the post-fight presser. Thus, it remains to be seen whether two of the biggest names in modern boxing are able to take the talks to the next level.
