That Shakur Stevenson and Ryan Garcia may not be on the best of terms is fairly well known. Many fans wouldn’t have forgotten the infamous Twitter exchanges between the two following Stevenson’s listless performance against Edwin De Los Santos in November last year.

The differences between the two young boxers once again came to the fore when Garcia spoke about the Newark-born southpaw in a podcast. Subsequent to the outburst, Shakur Stevenson took to Instagram, slamming the former interim lightweight champion.

Ryan Garcia joined DJ Envy, Charlamagne tha God, and Jess Hilarious in ‘The Breakfast Club’s studio. They were joined by noted sports broadcaster Akin ‘AK’ Reyes. Towards the end, the discussion veered towards Garcia’s retirement plans, accomplishments, and the kind of fights he wanted. Garcia said, “I’m here to fight everybody and run it and win, and then dip. You know I feel like Tank Davis rematch would be my final fight, like after I run through like these people, you know you got Devin, you got Teofimo…”

Charlamagne tha God took the opportunity to add “Shakur.” But Garcia didn’t seem too enthused by the mention and said that he might give him an opportunity. The host joked about why so many boxers are afraid of the three-division champion.

Taking to his Instagram story, he wrote, “Look how scared he is… Boy, my name being mentioned scared the sh*t out of you, @kingryan. U didn’t know what to say. U didn’t wanna give me a opportunity cause u know u can’t beat me lmao.”

Ryan Garcia told the hosts that no one was afraid of Stevenson. Rather, the latter is frightened by his own shadow.

A few minutes later, ‘AK’ Reyes checked whether the light welterweight challenger considered Shakur Stevenson a good boxer or not. ‘KingRy’ replied, “He’s a good boxer, but it’s nothing. It’s nothing that stands out to me. It’s just okay. You know how to move, but it’s nothing like Tank or me, or… I see boxers all the time; we I’ve been watching boxers my whole life. I know the ones that are different. He’s not different just.”

Later, Ryan Garcia explained how Devin Haney differs from Shakur Stevenson. In his opinion, the light welterweight champion may not be better than the lightweight champion, but he is far more entertaining in the ring. More so, the fact remains that Shakur Stevenson might be afraid of slugging it out when the need comes.

Ryan Garcia is preparing himself for the monumental clash against Devin Haney on April 20. Shakur Stevenson, on the other hand, shocked fans and followers by announcing his retirement from boxing last month. Like many before him, however, he seems to have rescinded the decision while sharing details on a tentative return.
