Downtown Louisville was recently wrecked by tragedy. It was reported that a gunman opened fire at the Old National Bank claiming the lives of five people and leaving nine people injured. This, in turn, sent shockwaves across the close-knit community of Downtown Louisville. Meanwhile, the Muhammad Ali Center took to social media to stand in solidarity with the victims and the community.

Over a series of Instagram posts, the Muhammad Ali Center mourned the loss of lives in the shootout.
Additionally, they also took a strong stand against gun violence by saying, “As families and friends mourn their loved ones, we are shaken and frustrated. Our healing thoughts are with those who mourn, as we search for accountability to stop this cycle of gun violence. While the proximity changes, the story does not.”

The page also paid tribute to the people who lost their lives. And, added that the incident changed the lives of four families. In the same vein, they added that it has left the community heartbroken.
As reported by BBC News, five victims aged between 40 and 65 lost their lives in the incident. Notably, among the nine injured was a rookie police officer who was shot in the head. His condition is said to be critical at the moment.

It is worth mentioning that among the deceased was Tommy Elliot who served on Mayor Greenberg’s Economic Development and Housing Committee. Moreover, he was a loyal supporter of the Muhammad Ali Center and a close friend of Lonnie Ali.
What is the Muhammad Ali Center?
The Muhammad Ali Center is a non-profit museum and cultural center based in Louisville, Kentucky. It was founded by Lonnie Ali as a tribute to her late husband and boxing legend, Muhammad Ali.

Moreover, the cultural center is an ode to Ali’s six core principles. And, features exhibitions on confidence, conviction, dedication, giving, respect, and spirituality.

In fact, Ali tirelessly strived to become a timeless inspiration to people. He believed that his main purpose in life was to uplift people. Additionally, he also encouraged them to stand up for what they believed in.
