Joe Rogan, the decorated UFC commentator, recently threw light on ‘The greatest heavyweight of all times. While speaking about champions’ boxing skills and charisma, he detailed a dark story that took so much from Ali that he was never the same again.

“Muhammad Ali decided to give up his heavyweight championship of the world in his prime, in his prime, he was when he fought Cleveland Big Cat Williams which was like, what year was that? That was Ali’s prime. And for the next three years, they made him sit out and he didn’t train, didn’t do anything. He was a different fighter when he came back. Those three years of taking off were like not training at all, but you could see it”, Rogan said.

The guest on the podcast, Dean Smith, who was actively participating in the entire discussion, added, “He never moved the same way that he did before.”

Despite all odds, Ali began training in Miami. Though he was 28 years old at the time of his comeback, the long layoff had built a lot of pressure on him. He was set to face Jerry Quarry, who was younger than him. The fight took place in the City Auditorium in Atlanta. This was his second outing in Atlanta.

Ali won the fight by knockout. However, the fight made one thing pretty clear: Ali was not the same fighter who left the ring years back.
