Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia, two young boxing stars on seemingly divergent paths, are bound by a shared past. Their rivalry stretches back to their teenage years, where they battled six times in the amateurs, splitting the series 3-3. That last meeting, a January 2015 encounter at the USA Youth National Championships, saw a 16-year-old Haney emerge victorious. Nearly a decade later, fate has brought them back together. Who will win this time around?
This time, it’s not a national title on the line; it’s bragging rights and a chance to claim supremacy in the lightweight division. Oscar De La Hoya, a promoter familiar with both fighters since their childhood, emphasizes their long-standing connection. They’ve known each other since the age of 10, and their paths were destined to intertwine in the big stage. Now they’re at a place where Floyd Mayweather‘s uncle is making his pick between the two.

In an interview with Jai McAllister, Jeff Mayweather talked about how the bout between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia was a “great fight.” However, due to Garcia’s unstable mental state, he bends in favor of ‘The Dream’. He said, “I lean slightly toward Devin. I know they both fought in the amateurs, and I don’t know. I don’t think nobody knows what’s going on in Ryan’s head. I mean, because it’s so weird for a guy to be talking the way that he’s talking. Talking about anything else but fighting, and that should be his focus.”

So, for Jeff Mayweather, it’s quite absurd to see how Garcia has behaved throughout the buildup of this event. So, for this reason, he’s picked his opponent instead. Mayweather also thinks the fight will go the distance. Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia will be meeting in New York City for their fight on April 20. Additionally, they have also been able to build a lot of hype for their matchup, especially because everybody wants to see Garcia perform inside the ring after his concerning outbursts online.
However, he’s recently been on a redemption journey, where he vowed to only focus on boxing and his training, at least until the fight was over.

A week-old Instagram post of Garcia captioned, “Healthy – Posted by Management,” hinted at a new strategy. Garcia’s team decided to mark any posts they made, differentiating them from his own. But does this mean Garcia is off social media for good? Not quite. In a video, Garcia explained his decision.
He feels “unloved” online, and the pressure of the Haney fight is adding fuel to the fire. So, he’s going radio silent – a self-imposed social media blackout until the fight is over. It didn’t happen, as Garcia never really stopped posting on social media. However, his posts have displayed a drastic change, since he has made sure to keep his conversations minimal to his upcoming fight and nothing else.
