The 19-year-old, 7 feet 4 inches phenom made his debut 4 days ago and has been compared to Kevin Durant and Rudy Gobert. Wembanyama also revealed that his ultimate goal is to be a player who makes his teammates better, something that Popovich has always valued and instilled in his players. “The best image I could have is to be a player that made his teammates better,” he said about the legacy that he wants to build.
Popovich has already developed Hall of Famers
Wembanyama’s commitment to Popovich and the Spurs is significant for several reasons. First, Wemby has made it clear that he is willing to put the team first and is willing to work hard to develop his game. In his first three games, he has averaged 15.7 points, 1.7 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game. Wemby has absolute faith in Popovich’s system and his ability to win championships. Secondly, it is a vote of confidence for the Spurs franchise, which has been struggling in recent years and is trying to rebuild.
