While Bethesda works on this Xbox console exclusive, it appears they have decided to add one more platform to release this game on. No, this platform is not a console developed by some Microsoft rival; it’s the Steam Deck. Starfield would get Steam Deck support, but fans wonder if this device would be able to run this massive game.

Is Steam Deck powerful enough to be able to run Starfield?
Starfield is an insanely huge game, not because this game is taking players on a journey through the stars. The real reason for calling it massive is the overlooked details, such as features that make a game demanding, such as detailed ship customization, and the details that this game’s planets hold.

These things, combined with the raw size of a game, work together to make a game much more demanding. Then come features such as ray tracing, etc., and one is left wondering: does Steam Deck have enough horsepower to handle them?

Steam Deck is basically based on the platform that powers the Xbox Series S. That console, according to Bethesda, would be able to run Starfield at 2K resolution. Even though it would be limited to 30 FPS, it would still be a big deal. Even though Steam Deck is not pulling as much power from its chipset. It would not be surprising if fans could pull 60 FPS at 1080 via that device.
And if we talk about Steam Deck’s native resolution, who knows, it might even run that game with fancy features such as ray tracing! Of course, it’s not fair to compare a handheld console to a full-fledged home console, but it has to be done to find a starting line.

The straightforward answer would be that this console runs Cyberpunk 2077, a much more demanding game than Starfield. Of course, it can handle Starfield. Keeping in mind that Starfield might end up being miles better than the above-mentioned RPG.
The rest would only be made clear once the game actually makes its way to Steam Deck. And let’s be honest, it’s not happening at launch; fans can expect that update to show up by the end of the year or next year.
