“All the Stories” – Alex Albon Takes Aim at Max Verstappen ‘Myth’
Follow Us
After an unconvincing season last year, Alex Albon was replaced by Sergio Perez at Red Bull. The Mexican driver became the fourth teammate of Max Verstappen at the Milton-Keynes-based team.
Being called in to replace Pierre Gasly, who ended up disappointing the Austrian team, Albon was given the task of teaming up with Verstappen halfway through the 2019 season. Unfortunately, at the end of the following year, the Thai-British driver was dropped, and currently, he is a test and reserve driver for Red Bull.
Given his track record so far, it is a fairly common belief in the F1 paddock and fandom that being Max Verstappen’s teammate comes with immense pressure. However, Albon, having served that role for 18 months at Red Bull, rubbishes that claim.

What did Alex Albon say?
Max Verstappen, who turned 24 last month, has had five teammates already in Formula 1.
When asked if Verstappen’s previous teammates failed because of the great pressure to succeed, Alex replied, “To be honest, all the stories about pressure are a bit [myth]. The bottom line is that the driver puts the pressure on himself, that comes from you.”

Albon impressed with the recent rise of Williams
After being away from the grid for one season, Alex Albon will return to F1 next year with Williams. He will take over George Russell‘s seat, who is moving to Mercedes to replace Valtteri Bottas, who is, in turn, Alfa Romeo-bound.
Safe to say, the former Red Bull driver is excited to join the Wantage-based team.

Williams’ team principal, Jost Capito, played a key role in Albon’s move from Red Bull to Mercedes-powered Williams. “He seems like a great guy and he’s really motivated,” said Albon about Capito.
“The team is also on the rise again. If you consider where Williams was two years ago and where it is now, then as a team, it has definitely made the greatest progress in this time. And the mood is good, under the new rules to attack properly,” concluded Albon.
