2023 has been a damning season for the Silver Arrows. After dropping the ball massively in 2022, Mercedes have failed to get their act together. With Lewis Hamilton waiting eagerly in the wings to fight for that elusive 8th world championship, the Brackley-based team have been constantly plagued by gremlins of the past. It appears as though there’s stagnation within the unit in terms of development. But Toto Wolff aims to change this.

Hamilton had a horror qualifying during the Miami GP. This apparently is the final nail in the coffin for the Silver Arrows. If they want to retain the 7x champion to the team for the long term, they have to show up and revamp their operations drastically to get back to the top.

According to ex-McLaren driver, Gehard Berger, “Every racing driver wants to drive for Ferrari at least once. And almost all the good ones have been there. Ayrton Senna just didn’t go to the Scuderia because he knew: I can never win there.”

“It may be that Lewis thinks so too. But if he doesn’t get a competitive car at Mercedes, if he doesn’t see a place at Red Bull Racing, then he might think: I don’t want to stop just yet, I want to try Ferrari again. Maybe I can fix it.”
