How does a person spend $100 million and still not manage to get the job done? Such is Lawrence Stroll‘s current dilemma. The Canadian billionaire shelled out the biggest of bucks (but pocket change for him) so that he could live his dream through his son, Lance Stroll‘s journey in Formula 1. But Lance, who never wanted to make motorsport his career path is now contemplating going back to what he was actually passionate about. The credit for it goes to his teammate, Fernando Alonso.

Aston Martin has had a very contrasting set of results from their 2 drivers in 2023. They started the season having the 2nd fastest car on the grid, behind Red Bull. While Alonso fully exploited the AMR23’s capabilities, Lance fell massively short of his 2-time champion teammate. Going into the 2nd half of the season, Lance, with 47 points, sits 102 points behind Alonso, with 149 points – a huge difference.

Such disparity and increasing pressure from the Spaniard is causing Lance to think of going back to play Tennis. But this time, professionally. Despite being good enough to possibly make it into the ATP, Tennis was what his dad did not allow him to play. And that is exactly where his heart still lies, as per rumors. In the latest episode of ‘The Race’ podcast, the hosts discussed about the 24-year-old’s career prospects.

The host said, “He (Stroll) is too far behind Alonso. But really he’s only likely to leave that team voluntarily. He’s on a rolling contract in his dad’s organization. There’s been some rumors floating around that he’s considering a switch to tennis. So if he makes a career switch like that, that opens up the seat. I won’t say he’s keeping anyone off the grid who truly belongs there. I think he should be slightly lower down if the seat were to theoretically come up for 2024, 2025.”

Lance receiving all the criticism for not being able to match his 2-time champ teammate seems to be the common theme whenever he is spoken about. However, his team knows the value that he brings to the table. They are here to back him throughout.

“When the car was at its best, Fernando achieved great results and Lance was coming off an injury,” Krack explained to Racefans. “For us, as a team, it is not a problem. We already saw in Hungary, Lance can be at a similar level to Fernando when he is competitive and we must not forget that he is one of the greatest drivers of all time. It’s not easy having him as a teammate. The way he deals with it is very nice.”
