Opinions change every second in this fickle world of F1. We see opinions completely flip after a race weekend. Or we see the same entity change their opinion about a certain aspect as more facts come to light. Whatever it may be, in the world of F1, we hardly find two people with similar opinions. To talk about two contradicting schools of thought, we want to bring the opinions of 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve and Carlos Sainz. To break the mystery, the last Canadian world champion completely discredited the recent claim of the current Ferrari man.

The 52-year-old Canadian recently expressed his opinion on the current state of Ferrari and how he sees the team doing in the coming season. As we all know, the only team to beat Red Bull in a race has been the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz. However, according to Villeneuve, that isn’t indicative of Ferrari’s chances in 2024. This opinion from the Canadian completely contradicts the one that of Sainz. Let’s look at both!

Sainz recently claimed, “I think that if there is someone capable of doing it [challenging Red Bull], that is Ferrari. Especially if we have clear objectives and know which direction to go in. If there is any team that has the capacity to react, as has been seen in the past, that is Ferrari.”

However, Jacques Villeneuve does not agree with the Spaniard. “Ferrari’s current momentum is not positive,” said the 1997 champion as quoted by Auto Journal. “But that’s part of his story – there are better times and other cycles without victories.” (Translated via Google)

Now, opinions aren’t facts and we can only listen and choose to agree or disagree with someone’s opinion. However, it is difficult to stand behind an opinion when the person expressing it contradicts themselves.

Carlos Sainz hypocritically contradicts himself with his opinion on the state of Ferrari

Sainz, since his Singapore GP heroics, has been fickle with his statements about the team and the state of the car. He has already contradicted himself with the state of the SF-23 and how comfortable he feels with the car.

Now, he has attracted more criticism toward himself with his statements about Ferrari’s chances against Red Bull. After claiming only the Italian team could challenge Red Bull, Sainz made a statement saying the Austrian team was years ahead of the competition.

Sains said, “Red Bull is two years ahead and has half a second of advantage. We have no choice but to focus on ourselves, it will be time to tell if and when we can catch up with Red Bull.

However, he did put some faith in his team with the help of the McLaren example. He said, “If McLaren has managed to make such an important step I’m sure that even a team like Ferrari may be able to do it.”
