The car improvement which all the Mercedes fans were waiting for seems to be visible now. Earlier the Silver Arrows seemed to struggle, but now as the season is nearing its end, there’s an upliftment in Mercedes’s form. But Mercedes’s strategy director James Vowles feels the past two races won’t be enough to beat the Scuderia, who are 40 points ahead of the Silver Arrows.

From the qualifyings to the race at Mexican Grand Prix, the Silver Arrows performed brilliantly. The Mercedes duo finished at P2 and P4, taking advantage of Ferrari’s uncompetitive F1-75. Throughout the season Ferrari seems to be struggling with many issues, reliability issue was the major one. To solve the problem, Scuderia has to compromise with their speed. While the Mercedes duo got the help of high-down force track at Mexican city.

In a video shared by Mercedes debrief, Vowles, Mercedes strategy director explains how the W-13 favours low down force circuits.He said, “We are very good when we are running maximum down force and others running maximum down force as well, and that was evident in Zandvoort, in Budapest for example, and it was no different in Mexico.”

Vowles finds it hard to tell Mercedes fortunes despite Lewis Hamilton‘s recent podiums and stating the case with Ferrari at Mexican GP, he adds, “How it performs across the next two is hard to tell, obviously in the case of Mexico it looked a little bit like that Ferrari actually dropped back, and I suspect that won’t be the case as we move forwards.”

Ferrari was unable to get the regular pace, which opened the door for Mercedes to become a challenger of the Red Bull. Post race Mattia Binotto explained the Mexican race was just one off .

Lewis Hamilton’s recent form is not a worry for the Scuderia

Ferrari experienced one of its most testing races in Mexico. The Ferrari duo finished at P5 and P6, where Carlos Sainz lead the Scuderia but was 58 seconds behind the leader Max Verstappen. The outing was surely not in the favour of the Prancing Horses. but Binotto believes it was just a one off caused due to the altitude as compared to their performance at sea levels.

Looking at the recent form of Hamilton , there are talks that the Silver Arrow has now become a major threat to the Red Bulls. However, team boss Mattia Binotto has a contrary opinion.

According to him, the lack of power didn’t explain the full scenario. He said, “I don’t think that’s explaining the most. That’s part of the equation, but there is certainly more than that, and it’s something which we need to look at. There is not a clear answer right now.”
