Charles Leclerc and Ferrari came to Spain with positivity, as they brought multiple new upgrades for the F1-75. Friday’s two free practice sessions saw the Monegasque top the timesheets. And a stunning lap followed it on Saturday in Q3, which secured him the pole position.

Moreover, as the lights went out, Leclerc perfectly timed his car to get across and defend against Max Verstappen. He was in a league of his own until disaster struck. His car suddenly lost power and as a result, he was forced to retire from the race. The consequence was huge, as his title rival, Verstappen, won the race.

The Dutchman currently tops the standings, with Leclerc 6 points behind him. On what promised to be an incredible week, all went wrong for Ferrari within seconds. The Monegasque seemed frustrated, but his team principal Mattia Binotto revealed he was cheerful, and supported the staff after the race.

Leclerc was cruising at the front as he capitalized on an error from Verstappen early in the race. After his spin, the Red Bull driver was stuck behind George Russell as Leclerc took command of the race. But during lap 27, his power unit failed and fans heard his frustrations on the radio.

Nevertheless, his calm and uplifting reaction once he came back to the garage was appreciated by Mattia Binotto. “Charles came into the garage and shook hands with all the mechanics. It’s a strong sign when drivers do that in a situation like that. It shows what kind of driver he is,” the Italian said.
