“Just Win” – A Young Lewis Hamilton Oozes High Confidence During an Awards Ceremony

Lewis Hamilton is steadily inching towards the stage of retirement. He turned 37 today, making him only the second oldest driver on the Formula One grid after his former rival, Fernando Alonso.

Nevertheless, there still seems to be a fairly long way to go for the seven-time world champion, considering he will remain under contract with the Mercedes AMG F1 team until the end of 2023 with an option of extending it beyond that year as well.

Hence, despite failing to break Michael Schumacher‘s record of championship victories in 2021, Hamilton has a couple more years in hand to give it another go. But, the only question that remains is, can he?

Well, there is no denying that his morale has certainly gone down since Abu Dhabi last year, thanks to the poor decision-making by the FIA that consequently cost Hamilton the title and instead placed the crown on top of Max Verstappen‘s head.

Lewis Hamilton in desperate need of his younger self?

With his confidence on the decline, all Hamilton potentially needs now is his own younger self to help him get back on his feet. How you might ask? Well, here’s a video of young Hamilton showing his optimism on the stage after winning an award at the Autosport Awards ceremony.

The event host asked Hamilton about his target for the following couple of seasons to which the Briton gave a pretty simple yet strong enough answer. “What are you going to do in the next couple of seasons?” the host asked.

Hamilton then replied, “Just win.

Just win! It’s easy motor racing, isn’t it?” the host countered as the audience burst into laughter. Hamilton is in the midst of a similar situation at the moment; two seasons in hand to regain his dominance. And like his younger self, all he needs to do is ‘win’, which has often seemed fairly easy for the seven-time world champion.

Of course, there are likely to be more hindrances next season amidst the regulatory changes. But, can Hamilton defy the odds to claim his record-breaking eighth world championship title in 2022? Or will his dream fall short?
