The world championship in 2023 may be out of sight for Lewis Hamilton. But, Fernando Alonso isn’t! The Silver Arrows’ maestro put in a solid effort in today’s Canadian Grand Prix Qualifying session to secure a second-row start for tomorrow. And who shall be partnering him from 3rd you ask? It’s Aston Martin’s own in-house Spaniard. While Mercedes and Aston Martin look pound-for-pound equal, Hamilton has one big concern for tomorrow, though.

Hamilton will be itching to get one up on Alonso tomorrow. Even though the two have been together on the grid for more than a decade-and-a-half, the rivalry is still spicier than ever. Naturally, the 38-year-old will be counting on his W14 to propel him past Alonso into T1. But can he hold onto the AMR23 is the main point of contention.

Spirits are arguably high in the Mercedes camp. Hot of a massive upgrade package, the Brackley-based team is looking to pick off the competition one by one. And the Brit has rallied his troops for his first conquest.

Speaking after the Qualifying session, Hamilton said, “I definitely think podium is on the cards tomorrow.” But he is wary of Alonso and the pacey Aston Martin. He continued, “I hope that we can compete with Alonso. It’ll be interesting to see how our long run is, but it’ll be good to have a battle with him.”

Lewis Hamilton has made his intentions clear. He’s coming for Alonso. But according to the Spaniard, Hamilton doesn’t concern him. Rather than fighting to save a podium, the 41-year-old would rather trouble Max Verstappen and Red Bull for the win!

Post Qualifying, Alonso was quoted as saying, “It was a very tricky qualifying session when choosing the right tires at the right time. P3, you know we will take it. It’s a good place to start. I think tomorrow we will have a chance to put some pressure on Red Bull. I think they had very easy wins until now, and tomorrow we will hopefully push more tomorrow.”
