Despite his heroics in the 2023 Brazilian GP Sprint shootout, Lando Norris had to taste bitter defeat at the hands of Max Verstappen in the Sprint race. However, after the race, during the interview session, Norris had different agendas to address as the Brit could not help but launch a scathing attack on the media.

The McLaren man was under scrutiny by the stewards during SQ3 for not adhering to the maximum lap time of 1:14.0. The Brit went slower than the allotted time by the race director and was summoned by the stewards. However, Norris got away with a reprimand and kept his sprint pole. He called the entire rule and scenario “stupid” while speaking to the media. Now, after the scrutiny, he cleared the record with a fiery statement.

The Brit was annoyed with all the backlash for labeling his reprimand “stupid” after the sprint qualifying. This is exactly why during his post-sprint interview, he made a scathing statement condemning the media asking them to not misquote him.

Norris said, “I’ll just correct you because you’re probably going to headline it, ‘Stewards don’t listen to what drivers say’ but I definitely didn’t say that. I just said that we don’t have control over the decisions. Of course, they listen to us and they take it on board but if we go ‘can you please do this’ all of a sudden, of course, they listen to it but it doesn’t mean it’s going to be something that gets changed straight away and sometimes it’s for later on down the line so, don’t misquote me, thanks!”

Keeping in mind Norris secured pole position on the same track a day later really puts his P7 qualifying position for the main race to shame. The Brit clearly has the pace to challenge at the front. However, the chaotic weather during the qualifying session ruined his chances. The Brit was extremely self-critical while speaking to the media post-qualifying.

Norris admitted, “I don’t even know how to feel. Because the car really came alive in qualifying and would have easily been good enough for P1. But then getting the lap together and implementing it in Q3 is just something different. That’s why I’m disappointed.”
