Recall how Laurent Rossi smashed his team during the first half of the season for not living up to the expectations. He suggested that the team should at least finish in the same position in the standings as they did in 2022. While Alpine wasn’t able to make any significant progress in 2023, McLaren did. Pierre Gasly has now come to take McLaren’s leapfrogging as a benchmark to change the fortunes of Alpine in 2024.

Alpine finished the 2022 F1 season P4 in the standings. The French team beat McLaren in a close fight. The 2023 season started and it seemed as if McLaren took backsteps in terms of development for the 2023 season as they were dead last. Alpine would’ve been most certain of finishing ahead of them again this year. However, Zak Brown and co. changed their fortunes a couple of months into their season with the B Spec package. 

While McLaren made significant strides, Alpine finished the season 6th in the constructors standing in no man’s land. Better off than the backmarkers, but nowhere near the front running teams. With Otmar Szafnauer gone along with other changes happening at the French stable, Pierre Gasly hopes to start the 2024 season better compared to 2023 taking McLaren’s example as inspiration for the team. 

Pierre Gasly, in conversation with AMuS said, “McLaren is a mystery to us. They were two seconds away from pole position in Saudi Arabia and ended up with a car that could take pole position or the front row of the grid. I see this promotion within just six months as a stimulation for our team. This shows: It is possible. Even under a budget cap. With the people we have in Enstone and Viry, that should be possible for us too.”

The 2023 season has been a turbulent one for Alpine. However, Bruno Famin remains positive in taking forward. 

Bruno Famin happy to remain the Team Principal 

Major changes like the departures of Otmar Szafnauer and Alan ensued for Alpine during the 2023 season. However, a huge $200+ million investment also came in with the value of the team skyrocketing to $900 million. Bruno Famin was made the TP for the interim. But Alpine is yet to confirm a new Team Principal. Amid this, Bruno Famin chimed in regarding his thoughts on the role of being a Team Principal.

Bruno Famin said, “I am not a big fan of changing the organization for changing the organization. Because if you can change an organization in the way you want, as many times in the way you want, if the people don’t want to work together, it will never work. As far as I’m concerned about being team principal, I’m quite happy with the position. As far as my boss is not telling me to change, I will remain.”
