“Hope I’m Right”: Despite the Worst 2023 Result, Hamilton Claims to End Verstappen’s Winning Streak by Backing Mercedes’ Strong Suit

Perhaps the most dominating season of the history of F1, Max Verstappen has won an unprecedented 12 races out of the 14 so far. This run has seen Verstappen break individual and team records and even climb the overall race wins chart. This has also put a target on the Red Bull man’s back and everyone on the grid is out to get him. So far only his teammate has managed to keep him away from the top step of the podium but in Singapore, Lewis Hamilton is hoping he can do so as well.

Hamilton suffered possibly the worst race of his season in Monza. However, he believes the team will bounce back in Singapore because he hopes the W14’s strong suit will favor the track.

“Singapore is all high downforce and, when we put our high downforce wing on, we generally are a little bit better. Not as bad as [here]. So I hope I’m right,” said Hamilton after the Italian GP as quoted by @fiagirly on Twitter (now X) .

The RB19 has showcased no weakness on any of the tracks in the season so far. It will be interesting to see if Hamilton’s claim proves to be true. It would be one among the many he has made in the past week.

However, unlike this one, Verstappen had to address the claim made by Hamilton ahead of the Italian GP.

The Mercedes man proved that with his statements about the Dutchman ahead of the Italian GP. However, Verstappen did not sit quietly either and gave a fitting reply to Hamilton’s for questioning the Dutchman’s racing prowess.

“I think it’s very difficult for them to deal with losses at Mercedes after all these years that they have won so much. But at some point, you also have to be realistic if you know it’s not in it. Then, you have to be able to appreciate what other teams do. We have always done that in the years that they were dominant,” he said.
