Mick Schumacher Given Brutal “Not a Max Verstappen” Wake Up Call as Haas F1 Seat Slowly Slips Away

Mick Schumacher’s time at Haas may be over after team owner Gene Haas delivered an ultimatum. While Schumacher hasn’t bagged as many points as were expected of him, he has crashed the car several times, proving costly for a team that runs on a tight budget. Now, former champion Damon Hill has delivered the verdict on the German.
Mick is currently sitting in the 16th position in the drivers’ standings with just 12 points to his name. His teammate Kevin Magnussen, on the other hand, has fared much better, sitting in 12th position with 22 points. While the point difference might seem too minuscule to evoke such harsh criticism, one has to remember for a team like Haas, these many points can make a difference in position in the constructors’ championship.

Damon Hill comes down heavy on Mick Schumacher
While Gene Haas recently said that he will wait until the end of the season to see if Mick can rack up some points, he also expressed his disappointment in how costly he has proven for the team. While his seat at Haas is in danger, to make matters worse, it looks like doors for him at Williams might close as well.
If rumors are to be believed, Williams might sign F2 driver Logan Sargeant, who will make his FP1 debut at COTA on Friday.

Haas too is in talks with Nico Hulkenberg, Guenther Steiner confirmed. Damon Hill thinks that while Nico is no better driver than Mick, he brings his experience to the table. He said, “You have to say Mick is not a hot shoe driver. He’s not a Max Verstappen. He might be very good and he might grow. Neither is Nico Hulkenberg, but he has all this experience behind him.”
Hill believes Mick’s poor performance could be because of his complacency. “I think someone like Mick…I think young drivers particularly are not quite aware of what the situation is in F1,” he continued. “Sometimes there’s a little complacency with the younger drivers and they get a massive shock.”
