Lewis Hamilton is back at his competitive best in F1. The F1 G.O.A.T. showed his wet weather prowess in the rainy qualifying session at the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver saved his best for last and put in a scintillating drive to finish P4 in the qualifying session.
Hamilton looked a bit behind his teammate George Russell throughout the session. But when the young Brit gambled with slicks on a damp track, the seven-time world champion used all his experience to register his best lap of the session. Hamilton was visibly happy with his lap in the post-qualification interviews.

“Honestly, I feel amazing. I’m so, so happy. P4 has never felt so good. Maybe [it did] when I was in my first year here in 2007 and I got my first P4 in qualifying… it felt great then. It kind of feels like that, particularly because it’s been a really, really difficult year.”
“To go through what we were faced with today, it was difficult for everyone out there and I’m really so happy to have us there and put us in a position. Because everyone’s working so hard and we’re constantly faced with these challenges,” said the Mercedes driver.
Why Do Mercedes Dominate F1?
It is a pretty good position for the seven-time world champion to challenge for his first race win of the season. He revealed he has gone for a different setup than his teammate for the race.

The Brit will start the race from the second row of the grid, but will still have to do some overtaking to get to the podium positions. However, he is confident that he has gone for the right setup on the car for Sunday.
“Before qualifying we had to decide whether we take a big wing or the smaller wing for the race for a small potential gain in qualifying. That’s the direction George went, and I’ve prepared for tomorrow. So I’m hoping it’s the right one, and gives me the best race car for tomorrow,” said Hamilton.
