The 2021 season gave birth to one of the most fierce rivalries in modern-day Formula 1 that still leaves a sour taste in some mouths. The rivalry between Red Bull and Mercedes that swept the entire world of F1 lingers on in the paddocks to this day. For those who believed it’s all in the past, the aftermath of the 2023 United States GP will change your mind. On this occasion, it was the Red Bull boss, Christian Horner, that re-ignited this rivalry against his old foe and Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff.

At the forefront, it was Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen spearheading the intense battle on track week in and week out. However, the two bosses were also locking horns during the entire season as well. In fact, the bosses still ignite their rivalry from time to time and, on this occasion, Horner has poked the bear.

In the 2023 US GP, Mercedes and Co. botched up their strategy and missed out on a race win with a lap or two. Hamilton was able to bring the gap to Max Verstappen down to two seconds and could’ve gone and taken the lead if there were more laps left in the race. However, Mercedes’s indecisiveness put Hamilton at a disadvantage and that is exactly what Christain Horner mocked, sparking his rivalry with Wolff in a post-US GP race interview, as quoted by Formula Passion.

“I think Mercedes found themselves in no man’s land on a tactical level. They tried to follow the one-stop strategy and then aborted it. They used the best tire in the final stint, but we had enough of an advantage to keep Hamilton at bay,” said Horner.

Even though Mercedes and Red Bull aren’t battling it out on the track, there is still plenty of back and forth between the two teams off the track. And this isn’t the first occasion as well.

Both Verstappen and Horner rip Toto Wolff’s ‘Wikipedia’ comment to shreds

Max Verstappen has been absolutely phenomenal in the current season, and the entire world is in awe. Those who aren’t, aren’t for a certain reason and it’s obvious. Toto Wolff proved that with his “those numbers are for Wikipedia, nobody reads that anyway” comment after Verstappen’s 10th successive race win at the 2023 Italian GP.

However, this comment was brutally mocked by the Red Bull men, and both Verstappen and Horner had some brilliant sarcastic replies for Wolff.

Verstappen kicked things off and said, “They had a bad race in Monza, so he was probably still disappointed about that.” Verstappen chose subtly. However, Horner did not hold back.

He said, “If we can close out these two titles at the next few races – I know nobody looks at Wikipedia these days – but it’s an achievement we’ll be very proud of.”
