Formula 2 has been a great recruiting ground for Formula 1 teams. After the competition’s Inaugural season in 2017, we have seen plenty of young drivers from Charles Leclerc to Mick Schumacher making their mark in F2 and, as a result, rising to the scene at Formula 1. Many believe 2021 F2 champion Oscar Piastri is the next driver in line for a seat in Formula 1.
Piastri is currently the reserve driver for the Alpine F1 team. He raced for the Prema racing team in F2 during the 2021 season and won the championship with 6 wins and a 60.5 point gap to the second-placed Robert Shwartzman. According to Ted Kravitz, Williams F1 are potentially in line to sign the young Australian driver.

Ted’s notebook, started by popular F1 reporter Ted Kravitz, is an exclusive behind the scene access to the paddock. During the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Kravitz revealed that Alpine is looking at an opportunity to send 21-year-old Piastri to Williams.
He said, ”One of the paddock rumors has Williams interested in the services of Oscar Piastri for next year. I know that I have said you might see Oscar at Aston Martin but I was wrong about that and it’s actually Alpine looking at a place at Williams for Oscar.”
