Carlos Sainz was hoping to put in a stellar performance in the sprint race on Saturday afternoon. However, his horrific crash in FP2 earlier in the day took a toll on his confidence. Hence, he couldn’t close the gap to his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc.

The Monegasque racing driver crossed the line in sixth place, while the Sainz had to settle for seventh place. However, the talking point between the two Scuderia drivers was Sainz’s gap to Leclerc, but the Spanish driver feels he will make up for it in Sunday’s race.

Sainz was hoping to have his Saturday off to a better start. However, his huge shunt in FP2 didn’t just damage the Ferrari, but also his damage. Hence, that is the reason he stated for not closing the gap to Leclerc in the sprint session. However, he is optimistic and believes he will regain his confidence in Sunday’s race.

A day for redemption for Sainz

In his first appearance at the Italian Grand Prix as a Ferrari driver, Sainz was hoping to hit the ground running. However, his massive crash in the second practice session took a hit on his confidence levels.
