With Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez going head-to-head so far in a fair manner, the team hasn’t decided to back any driver just now. However, that call will be made sooner or later, and the reigning champion, Max Verstappen, has submitted his first bid.

The Dutchman, with his victory in Miami, starting P9, impressed the team. Psychologically, he has placed himself as the better driver among the two, as he put on an impressive stint with the hard tires as well as the medium ones. Taking away the lead and the fastest lap as well, on a street circuit, he now stands 14 points clear of Sergio Perez, placing himself in the right position going into the triple-header.

The idea of Red Bull’s golden boy dominance is also reflected in the words of the team’s chief adviser, Helmut Marko. The taskmaster was quoted by OE24 as saying, “That was always clear. Checo has certain streetcircuits where he is strong. But in Miami, Max taught everyone a lesson. Nobody can imitate the way he managed the tires so that the FL was still possible at the end.”

Helmut Marko calls Miami one of the best Max Verstappen performance

Max Verstappen took the win by five seconds ahead of Sergio Perez. Verstappen’s win was from his third-last starting position, as he has previously won, having started from P10 and P14. Hence, it was hailed by Marko as one of his best runs.

While speaking with De Telegraaf and quoted by GP Fans, he said, “If we disregard that moment during qualifying on Saturday, this was one of Max’s best performances. Max made the difference in that. We were a bit concerned beforehand in case a safety car would come, but that was not the case. Once he was in the open air, Max was unstoppable.”
