After his race-ending crash in Lap 47, Max Verstappen trudged off a disappointed man. Little did he know that his crash would create more chaos to finish the race.
A red flag, a standing restart, and two laps later, his championship rival, Lewis Hamilton, went from P2 all the way back to P15. This means Verstappen keeps his lead at the top of the driver’s championship, despite crashing out of the race. After the race, the Dutchman revealed how he received news about Lewis’ misfortune.

Leading the race from Lap 19, Verstappen looked set to take his third victory of the season. However, a rear tire blowout in Lap 47 brought a sudden end to the Dutchman‘s trip in the ‘Land of Fire.’
Hamilton, however, couldn’t take advantage of the situation. At the restart, the Briton ran wide after a lock-up forced him off the track in Turn 1. After the race, the Dutchman was asked when he got to know about the incident.

The 23-year-old said, “When I was lying on that bed. They were checking my blood pressure, and suddenly my phone was vibrating. So, I said, ‘What’s going on?’ Because I could hear the cars, of course.
“And I was done, and I was allowed to leave. And then I saw on my phone, Lewis had a problem in Turn 1.”

Verstappen: Blood pressure was fine even with the text messages

As a follow-up question, Verstappen was asked if he needed to check his blood pressure again after hearing about Hamilton’s Turn 1 mishap. The Dutchman revealed that, despite the texts, his blood pressure was just fine.
“My blood pressure was, even with those text messages, absolutely fine,” said the Dutchman.
With Hamilton’s streak of scoring points ending today at 54, Verstappen remains at the top of the driver’s championship. Although he suffered, his teammate Sergio Perez won in Baku, which helped extend Red Bull‘s lead in the constructor’s championship to 26 points.

This could prove to be a major boost for Red Bull heading into the French Grand Prix, for which Mercedes will be preparing to make a much-needed comeback.
