Additionally, their Italian team principal, Mattia Binotto, has come under immense scrutiny. Binotto’s stubborn defense of Ferrari’s strategic team has raised many eyebrows. However, the criticism continues to pour on the Ferrari boss as former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has his say.
He told the French daily L’Equipe, “I do not want to hit Ferrari, because they need calm. But what Ferrari needs is a leader.”
Many have pondered if Binotto is the right man to lead the job for Ferrari. Their numerous mistakes have cost their drivers points, podium finishes and even race wins. The Italian will be hoping for his drivers to help relieve some of the pressure ahead of their home race.
Charles Leclerc will look to recreate his famous 2019 win in Monza. It will provide the Italian team some breathing room and take off a little pressure from their shoulders.
The Italian boss will hope to put the sorrows of the Dutch GP behind him. Additionally, he has been given some boost with league leader Max Verstappen taking a 5-place grid penalty.
Mattia Binotto expects Ferrari to react in Monza
Things might not have gone according to Ferrari’s plan so far, but Binotto expects Ferrari to bounce back in Monza. However, Carlos Sainz will start the race from the 20th position after taking a 25-place penalty. The onus now falls on Leclerc to lead Ferrari on Sunday.
Mattia Binotto said, “It is certainly a difficult moment right now and for our team because we are not getting the results with the expectations that we have got.”
