Former UFC middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker will be back in action against the Dark Horse of the division, Jared Cannonier. This is not an ideal fight for Whittaker considering he is coming from a knock out loss against Israel Adesanya at UFC 243. However, the division is full of elite fighters and Cannonier is a strong contender for the middleweight title. Hence a win over Cannonier could take the Aussie fighter very close to a title shot. On the other hand, Cannonier will be looking to continue his reign of terror in the division.

Jared Cannonier has been a force to be reckoned with ever since he has made his middleweight debut. He had an anti-climatic ending against Anderson Silva, but his win against Jack Hermansson proved the fact that he will do just fine against the top middleweights in UFC. It’s not a surprise that Cannonier’s power will be hard to deal with for any of the middleweights in the division. However, after two brutal wars against Yoel Romero, it seems Whittaker is used to dealing with opponents with big knockout power.

What About Robert Whittaker vs Darren Till?

It was speculated that Robert Whittaker is going to face Darren Till next in London. Both Till and Whittaker even agreed for the fight. However, UFC matchmakers had something else in mind as Whittaker makes his comeback against Cannonier. This decision does make sense considering Till is still new to the weight class despite his impressive performance against a former title contender, Kelvin Gastelum. It is believed that Darren Till is going to face Jack Hermansson who is coming from a loss against Jared Cannonier.

Robert Whittaker has been a victim of injuries ever since he held the middleweight strap. The time off from the sport played a crucial factor in his title defense against Israel Adesanya where he did not look as good as he was expected to. Now after the setback against Adesanya it would be intriguing to see whether the Reaper still got the killer instinct in him when he faces the Killa Gorilla, Jared Cannonier.
