The young prodigy Rose Zhang, took everyone by storm when she broke the legend Tiger Woods‘ 27-year-old record. And she didn’t stop there. Her first game ended up serving as a showcase for her best golfing abilities, after she won her professional LPGA Tour debut, something not achieved by any LPGA Tour pro since 1951.

Rose Zhang and her unexpected hurdle before the game
The 20-year-old phenom is all set for a fierce competition in her fourth tournament at the LPGA Tour’s Dana Open at Highland Meadows Golf Club. But before reaching the venue, she had to face an unexpected test. Zhang set out on a journey from Monterrey, but sadly, encountered a difficult circumstance when her flight was delayed for nine hours. This definitely wore her out.
Her tough ordeal was shared by Golf Week on its Instagram account with the caption: ”Rose Zhang, 20, is making her fourth professional start. After posting a top-10 at the U.S. Women’s Open, she had a heck of a time getting from to this week’s event.”

In it, Zhang said that she reached Ohio around 3 a.m. The whole trip exhausted her, and this was shown in her practice rounds. She didn’t let this influence her first round, though. Together with Bailey Tardy, Aditi Ashok, and Linnea Johansson, she is currently at T-4.
Why is the golf world so obsessed with Zhang? Her track record is the answer.
Zhang’s career as a professional so far
After having incredible milestones in her amateur career, Zhang opened her professional journey with a solid win. At the final round at Liberty National, she didn’t make a birdie but won the two-hole playoff against Jennifer Kupcho. She won the Mizuho Americas Open and established herself as a significant rival for many elite athletes.

Next was the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. There, too, she showed her fiercest side and finished at 5-under par, thereby claiming an eighth place for herself. Although Zhang placed tenth in the following major, the US Women’s Open, her aura was unaffected. She was still making headlines. The Athletic reported, “US Women’s Open 2023: Allisen Corpuz clinches first career LPGA win, Rose Zhang finishes T9.”
The young prodigy is now prepared to compete at her fourth event. Hurdles will come and disappointments will follow, but that’s what makes a player a shining star.
