While the series of controversies may have taken a halt in golf, the drama around the courts of Tennis has continued. World number one, Novak Djokovic, had to withdraw from the ongoing Indian Wells Masters, as he was restricted from entering the United States. The news saddened many, including the husband of 10-time Major winner, Annika Sorenstam.

The Serbian tennis star started the year with a win at the Australian Open. It marked Djokovic’s 22nd Grand Slam title. Following his win in Down Under, the 35-year-old ended up losing the Dubai Tennis Championship to Daniil Medvedev last Friday. Following his defeat, Novak hoped to get back to winning ways at the Indian Wells Open in California.

However, just days before the commencement of the ATP Tour event, the tennis star announced his withdrawal. The sad update infuriated many of his fans, among whom was Mike McGee, the husband of the LPGA Hall of Famer.

Why did the husband of Annika Sorenstam get upset over the Djokovic update?

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the American government has restricted foreigners from entering the country without vaccination dose. Novak Djokovic, who has opted not to get vaccinated, missed last year’s US Open for the same. However, his arrival on American land has further been postponed as the Serbian was again rejected the US Visa for his no-v*ccine decision.

As the news broke out, McGee wasn’t very pleased. Having a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Sorenstam’s husband is an avid sports fan. He displayed his anger at the American government for not allowing Djokovic to enter the border by tweeting, “The v*ccine does nothing in terms of stopping one from spreading the virus”.

Mike McGee also disclosed how Novak has previously been diagnosed with COVID-19 and must have a strong immune system. After questioning the 2.76 million illegal immigrants in the country, Mike threw shade at the government for not allowing one of the healthiest people in the world. “We’re going to stop one of the fittest people in the world from coming to compete”, wrote Sorenstam’s husband.

Though McGee may have displayed his frustration of missing out on watching one of the best Tennis stars compete on American soil, the Indian Wells Masters is underway without the World Number One. Nonetheless, in case the policies remain the same later in the year during the US Open, it will upset Djokovic fans more severely.
