Is LIV Golf slipping away? Viewership is more than simply a statistic in the competitive realm of professional golf; it is the lifeblood that supports player fame, sponsorships, and the sport’s appeal. Despite its ambitious endeavors, LIV Golf has failed to garner the same level of interest as the PGA Tour, which continues to draw significant crowds. This year, the difference has become more noticeable, with LIV’s viewership figures falling well short of the norm. Even well-known players like Bryson DeChambeau are trying to close this gap and failing.
This is not an isolated case. LIV Golf matches had trouble getting viewers earlier in the year; some broadcasts drew as few as 12,000 people. These numbers contrast the PGA Tour’s strong viewership, frequently surpassing two million. The notable disparity raises questions about the league’s capacity to market its players and affect their exposure properly.
Bryson DeChambeau’s recent win at LIV Golf Korea, which helped him earn $4M, demonstrated his persistent skill. However, concerningly low audience numbers overshadowed the victory. Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal reported that during DeChambeau’s victory, FS1 averaged just 48,000 viewers, with significantly fewer people watching other rounds. You see, for the second round, a mere 59,000 users turned in, and on Thursday, it was just 30,000.

More viewership: FS1 averaged 48,000 viewers for Bryson DeChambeau's win at LIV Golf Korea on Saturday night/Sunday morning (11:30pm-5:02am).
Friday on FS1 (11:09pm-3:44am): 59,000. LIV also had a short 45-minute window on FS2 on Friday.

The gap affects visibility and legacy in addition to numbers. Once a major player on the PGA Tour, DeChambeau currently gets little credit for his accomplishments in LIV Golf. In addition to harming his reputation, this lack of publicity calls into question the league’s capacity to adequately market its players. Due to the circumstances, fans call for DeChambeau to rejoin the PGA Tour. The sentiment is unmistakable: playing in a league with little viewership diminishes the potential and exposure a player of his talent deserves.

Fans urge Bryson DeChambeau to return
“What an idiotic experiment. Bring Bryson home,” said one spectator, expressing the opinion that traditional fans have not responded favorably to LIV Golf’s attempts to transform the sport. The league has frequently come under fire for altering the traditional golf experience through its schedule and format modifications. “#BringBrysonHome,” another fan’s catchphrase, highlights the general desire for DeChambeau to rejoin the PGA Tour so that his abilities may be displayed to a wider audience. DeChambeau has repeated this view, saying, “I would love to continue to showcase my skill set around the world in different places,” about his desire to play in PGA Tour tournaments again.
Additionally, critics draw attention to the wider ramifications for LIV Golf. There are worries that DeChambeau’s best years are being wasted in a league that lacks the PGA Tour’s exposure and competitive depth. One fan wrote, “So sad to see such a talented player wasting his prime on this ridiculous tour,” acknowledging this. Commentators like Nick Faldo support this viewpoint, claiming that players have become softer due to LIV’s guaranteed rewards, which have lessened the sport’s traditional obstacles and spirit of competition.

Additional skepticism is demonstrated by remarks such as “Oh no. “Not even Bryson can move the needle…dead in the water,” implying that the league’s future would be grim if a well-known player like DeChambeau cannot increase interest. “This, and I can’t emphasize this enough, is hilarious,” one fan wrote, underscoring the seeming futility of LIV Golf’s attempts to compete with more established tours. Other fans have even adopted a more mocking tone.
These responses represent a gap between LIV Golf’s goals and the expectations of the golf community, and they go beyond simple internet discussion. The league may need to reassess its current course in light of its difficulties attracting sizable viewership and fan participation. The future of athletes like Bryson DeChambeau is at stake as the controversy heats up. Will LIV Golf meet players’ and fans’ demands, or will the cries to “bring Bryson home” grow too strong to ignore?
