In recent years, the golf world got acquainted with the excellence of Scottie Scheffler on the course. From winning the Master in 2022 to currently holding the title of World No.1 rank, the golfer has definitely made a place in the halls of golfing history. Along with winning titles, Scheffler also hit the lowest scoring average of the 2022-23 season, followed by Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm. Not only this, Scheffler leads all four Strokes Gained stats as well.

Even after such scintillating performances by Scheffler, the golfer could not break the behemoth record that was created by Tiger Woods during his peak years and, thus, the 2023 PLAYER Champion secured the seventh on the PGA Tour history of all-time best scoring average.

Out of the Top 10 places on the all-time best scoring average on the PGA Tour, seven belong to the Cal native golfer, Tiger Woods. The 48-year-old has broken and tied many records, and keeping the best scoring average to his name is one such accolade of Woods’s career.

The 2023 season was a remarkable year for Scottie Scheffler. He won two titles in 2023; the WM Phoenix Open and The PLAYERS Championship. After finishing in the Top 12 in almost every event without missing the cut, in the 2022-23 season, except the CJ Cup where finished T45, this year has been nothing but short of remarkable for Scheffler.

Another accolade added to his name is, having the lowest scoring average for the 2022-23 season with 68.269 and standing 7th on the PGA Tour all-time scoring average. Undoubtedly, an impressive run by the world no.1. But despite all, the 6-time PGA Tour winner is far away from what Tiger Woods has achieved in terms of scoring average or the record of staying on top for weeks on the OWGR rankings.

Woods has held the record for most low-scoring average on the PGA Tour since the 1980s when the Tour started collecting statistical data. However, even before the 80s and on counting the actual scoring average, Woods still holds the crown for the best actual scoring average on the Tour. He broke the record of Bryon Nelson of 68.33 set in 1945 with his 68.17 score in 2000. Will Scheffler attempt to break into Woods’s top 5 in the 2024 season?
