A few days ago, the news of the merger between the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour, and their prime nemesis, LIV Golf, shocked the whole golf community. They will soon merge into the newly formed organization. This move was unexpected for everyone because the rivalry between the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour, and LIV Golf was very fierce. Players that joined LIV Golf from another league were instantly suspended, and some even received fines from their previous leagues.

The DP World Tour fined £100,000 to sixteen players. Though the players were fined, it was the media that fueled the fire. One golfer recently discussed the unfavorable aspects of the media. Let’s find out!

Larrazabal recently made an appearance on a Beefs Golf Club episode. There, he discussed his version of events and the backlash he received from the golf media. One of the most well-known golf-related Twitter accounts, Flushing It, published a portion of his conversation.

In it he said: “I played 1 LIV event in London and I got fined and I got abused. It’s not all about money. It’s about the 10 months that the media, to our brand, to our personal brand, or whatever, they did a lot of damage.” He also talked about what golf means to him. “The way I play golf at my life to have fun and to talk with my fourteen clubs and the golf balls. That’s all I’m gonna do,” said Larrazabal.

Pablo Larrazabal is not the only one to have endured criticism from the media and fines. One of the sixteen players who received a fine from the DP World Tour is Sergio Garcia. He refused to pay the fine, making headlines. It is undeniably true in today’s world that men can be made or broken by the media.

Larrazabal’s legacy on the European Tour

Pablo Larrazabal has a total of nine wins on the European Tour. When he won the Open de France in 2008, he earned his first victory. His second triumph came in a playoff over Sergio Garcia at the BMW International Open in Munich in June 2011. In 2014, he also triumphed over Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.

He displayed his extraordinary abilities this year and took home two trophies. He triumphed by two shots at the Korea Championship in April. He also won the KLM Open in the Netherlands in May.

Although we cannot discount Larrazabal’s golf prowess, hearing his side of the story has made us all more aware of the influence of the media and how it can either be blessing or curse for person.
