LIV Defector makes a big statement about major championships

Apart from A list golfers who are headlining the event, several lesser-known golfers will also be teeing it up at Royal Liverpool this weekend. One such player is English golfer Laurie Canter And now just one day before performing at the event, Canter has given a big statement about the PGA Tour major tournaments. In an exclusive interview given to The Guardian, Canter says that the major tournaments have become a bigger deal compared to earlier. “I think the majors are even bigger deals now. It was hard to imagine majors getting bigger but it feels like that is what has happened.”

According to him for some LIV golfers who are not playing on other tours this is a very big opportunity. “There’s probably 10-12 world-class players in LIV who we haven’t seen playing on the other tours so this is the chance for them to be back playing with the other guys. These weeks give you that blockbuster showdown.” Last year Canter signed up with LIV Golf for a rumored $500,000 per year. He thinks the league is an amazing opportunity but is embarrassed by the drama between the old tours and the new tour.

Laurie Canter found the LIV Tour split embarrassing

Canter says in the interview: “There have been points where it has been embarrassing to be a professional golfer. I have had teaching pros say to me that they have been embarrassed by some of the conduct that has gone on. That is not what being a golfer is about.” The Open Championship is his first major tournament of this year. He earned a spot for the event in final qualifying at Royal Porthcawl. The 33-year-old has won one event in his golf career at the Players Club and has some Top 10 finishes to boast of.
