Is Brooks Koepka Playing in the 2023 PGA Championship?

The second major championship of the year, the PGA Championship, is just around the corner. The cream of the crop will fly off to New York to compete for the honor. Just last month Jon Rahm, clinched the victory at the first major, the Masters, and it will certainly be interesting to see who wins the second. With LIV golfers now allowed to compete in the major, one big question remains: will Brooks Koepka be there?

It will be interesting to see Brooks Koepka compete at the PGA Championship, especially since he’s been in remarkable form of late, even placing second at the Masters. But will he take the course? Let’s find out!

Will Brooks Koepka compete for the year’s second major?

When players decided to jump to LIV Golf, the PGA Tour decided to ban them from its events. The news didn’t sit right with many people, but it was the price that golfers had to pay. But soon, among that darkness, there was a ray of light when the announcement arose that LIV golfers would be allowed to compete in all the major tournaments of 2023, given that they qualified for them.

And as per the qualification criteria, Phil Mickelson and Martin Keymar are among the LIV golfers eligible to play in the PGA Championship at Oak Hills since they have won the major in the past. Talor Gooch and Indian-origin golfer Anirban Lahiri received their invitations while they were in Singapore for LIV’s fifth event of the season.

Other LIV stars, namely Mito Periera and Brendan Steele, will be teeing it up on the greens in New York, as they finished among the top 15 players in the 2022 championship. Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, and Bryson DeChambeau will also be on the field. But will the 2023 Masters runner-up be joining them?

Well, put bluntly, yes! As mentioned earlier, all the past winners receive a lifetime invitation to the event, and Koepka is also part of that cohort! Back in 2018, he won the PGA Championship and did so again in 2019, giving him automatic qualification into the event every year. And with the recent form he’s been in, it’s almost certain that he will not just take to the course but also battle it out for the top spot.

Koepka’s stunning majors’ record

Koepka is one of the biggest names in the golf world. has had a marvelous track record. He won his first major title in 2017 at Erin Hills when he emerged victorious at the US Open. He soon followed that with a victory in another major at the 2018 PGA Championship. And within a span of a year, the LIV golfer won two more.

He is currently the only golfer to defend two different majors consecutively. Two were at the PGA Championship (2018, 2019), and the other two at the US Open (2017, 2018). Apart from his four major championship wins, he also has a stellar record of performances at the majors. And in 2019, he finished in the Top-5 at all four major tournaments.

The four-time major champion is yet to win his first Masters or The Open, where his best finishes were second and fourth, respectively. Before he can grab a win at those events, perhaps he can clinch a third PGA Championship trophy?
