“I’m still very competitive, and, yeah, but just trying to enjoy the few times I play.” This is what Lexi Thompson said when she left the golf world in shock with her semi-retirement news. After her statement, the worry of not witnessing Lexi Thompson in action at the US Women’s Open began. But she put all of them at rest as she will be teeing off at Erin Hills Golf Course from May 29 to June 1. With this appearance, she will have the chance to create a stunning record at the major.

In 2007, she became the youngest to complete at 12. In 2025, there another record she will make is the most number of starts at the US Women’s Open. This year will be her 19th consecutive start at this event. She, despite being away from the winner’s circle, has managed to stay close to qualification for the major. Ahead of this major, she is preparing hard by grinding in the gym. To accompany her record, another golfer is matching the feat.

Out of the total 156 players featuring in the event, only 35-year-old Amy Yan will match the number of appearances. Anna Nordqvist’s 17, Jenny Shin’s 15, and so on will follow the list. With the appearance count increasing, she wouldn’t mind having the wins column getting updated. Even though in the past she has been runner-up and third place, is she the form to win?

Lexi Thompson’s performance in 2025

Despite the retirement, she is among the most vouched players on the course. Her stature with 15 professional wins, including the 2014 Chevron Championship, is what drives expectations for her performance. However, expecting a win after a long drought has two sides to the coin. The 30-year-old won her last event in 2022 at the Aramco Team Series of the Ladies European Tour. From the LPGA Tour, her last win came the year she recorded her best performance, i.e., 2019. She won the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

So far, this year, she has recorded two top-15 finishes, along with a T38 and a missed cut at the Chevron Championship. While looking at the finishes, she might not be in her prime, but her stats are hinting at a great season. She recorded only three over-par rounds out of 14. She is also leading the Par-3 scoring average, along with being among the leaders for round-to-scoring average, greens in regulation, and 66.84% driving accuracy.
