The LIV Golf League may be plagued with controversy since its inception, but it certainly has gained immense popularity. Recently, it drew the attention of Mariano Di Vaio, a fashion blogger, model, and entrepreneur. While playing 18 holes with the legendary golfers at Club de Golf Valderrama, the fashion icon also had a secondary goal to get his son’s favorite cap signed by the greats.

While all seemed to go well, with the blogger happy and the golfers thrilled to have him play along with them, and getting his son Nathan DiVaio’s cap signed, Mariano may have made a controversial statement. He seemed to inadvertently almost plunge Ian Poulter into yet another controversial situation.

Controversial statement from fashion superstar draws the attention of Ian Poulter

Another controversy may be brewing due to Mariano Di Vaio’s Instagram post. The fashion blogger, who endorses the $4.69 Billion company Hugo Boss, gave a shout-out to Poulter saying, “The man himself, @IanJamesPoulter, our Ryder Cup hero, true gentleman.” While his comment was all compliments and made to commemorate the lasting career of the pro golfer, it may have been slightly untrue.

The fashion entrepreneur’s post also included other LIV Golfers including Sergio Garcia, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and others. However, he only shared the one about Ian Poulter in his story.

For the most part, among LIV Golfers, there are several big names such as Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, and many others including Ian Poulter who left behind a legacy at the Ryder Cup. Each one of them deserves credit for their contribution and they are all Ryder Cup heroes. Only crediting the English golfer and not his compadres is a huge oversight that could easily draw negative attention.

Ian Poulter, though, was prompt on his feet and reshared the special story to show his appreciation as well as circumvent any controversies that may arise. He wrote six simple words on his Instagram story, “Happy to see you out there.”

Of course, Mariano Di Vaio meant no harm. His intention was to commend the pro golfer on his incredible talents.

Ian Poulter is being targeted for controversies rather than appreciated for his contributions

Controversy is no stranger to golfers, especially those who have been on the two formerly-rival-now-merged circuits for decades. Since joining LIV Golf, the English Pro Golfer has been on the receiving end of several controversies. Ian Poulter and his buddy Lee Westwood have been in the media lately for withdrawing their candidacy from the Senior Open Championship. This, in light of their stance on the PGA Tour’s hypocrisy and their current involvement with LIV Golf, caused an uproar in the golfing world.

Now, the innocent compliment from the fashion blogger had the potential to ignite more debates against the once-beloved golfer. True, it’s not like Poulter can do anything about it; he isn’t creating the rumors or seeking the limelight. It still seems to follow him everywhere.
