Ahead of the first round of the event, Spieth played in the pro-am on Wednesday. And that’s when his week started off with a bang. Alongside being paired with the singers Jake Owen and Keith Mitchell, the golf pro also had two NBA stars on his team, Damion Lee and Steph Curry. Teeing up alongside the four-time NBA championship winner, the three-time major winner was more than excited, and it was quite visible to all. Curry himself is an avid golfer and was introduced to the sport at a very young age.

Hence, naturally, during his press conference after the first round on Thursday, Spieth was asked about his experience playing alongside the NBA celebrity. Talking about the kind of influence Curry, who is an avid golfer and has been playing since he was a child, had on the course, the golf pro opened up. We’re walking, and no one’s even looking at me,” he said, talking about the authority Curry had. He added that all eyes were on the Golden State Warriors star, so he decided to just walk to the next tee.

Although it may have seemed like jealousy, the golf pro’s true feelings were far from it. In fact, he revealed that he himself was a huge fan of the NBA superstar and had been influenced by him just like countless others around the world. “I’m such a massive fan of his that it’s just cool to spend time talking with him,” he said, letting loose his inner fanboy!

This certainly was a great start to the event for the 2015 Augusta Champion, who has had an ideal year. From narrowly missed victories to a wrist injury, fate has not smiled on Spieth lately. But now, things seem to be looking up for him; even his wrist is looking better while on the course at the Memorial. In fact, the golfer even shot a 69 in the first round at Ohio.
