LIV’s Brooks Koepka is no stranger to winning major championships. After all, he did win four of them between 2017 and 2019, including not one but two Wanamaker trophies. In the following years, however, Koepka’s career was marked by knee injuries, including one that needed surgery, a woeful drop in form, and his infamous defection to the Saudi-backed league.

In April of 2023, the former World No. 1 finally got a chance at redemption during the Masters but choked it away, losing the green jacket to Spain’s Jon Rahm. Now, for the second time this year, Koepka has the chance to nab his 5th major title as well as his 3rd PGA Championship win. Ahead of teeing it up for the final round, the golfer opened up about wanting to remedy the costly errors from last month at Augusta National.

After a disappointing 2022 that saw Brooks Koepka dish out forgettable performances at major events, the 33-year-old broke free of the misery at the Masters last month. Well, almost! During the tournament, he had a four-shot lead at the top of the leaderboard at one point. But, as fate would have it, Spain’s Jon Rahm came in from the back to claim the title after Koepka gave his lead away with an underwhelming final-round 75.

The Florida native is now on the brink of a major victory yet again after taking the lead at the ongoing PGA Championship on Saturday. He sits solo at the top with a 6-under total, with Viktor Hovland and Corey Conners one behind. However, Koepka definitely has the Masters loss in the back of his mind as he sets his eyes on a third Wanamaker Trophy win.

So, what pointers did he take from Augusta? “To just never think the way I thought going into the final round, I think that was a big thing for me, but other than that, I think even having — learning what I learned at Augusta kind of helped today,” expressed the LIV golfer in post round-3 press conference. “Like I said, I won’t do it again the rest of my career.

Despite an opening round of 2-over 72, Koepka’s back-to-back 66s have helped him steadily rise to the top of the leaderboard. When the final round commences, the LIV pro will want to hold on to his lead and take the highly coveted trophy home.

Koepka takes the lead as Corey Conners falters

Oak Hill delivered another exciting day of golf on Saturday and has set the stage for a thrilling final round. 2-time PGA Championship winner Koepka scored his second consecutive, round-best, four-under 66 to achieve a six-under total overall. He now sits one stroke ahead of Canada’s Corey Conners and Norway’s Viktor Hovland.

Both Conners and Hovland carded an even 70 on Saturday to stay in contention for the Wanamaker Trophy. The Canadian had things going smoothly for him and was bogey-free with only three holes to play on a rain-soaked Oak Hill. But misfortune struck, as a double bogey at the 16th hole saw him slip to the second position.

Meanwhile, Scheffler, who was in a three-way tie for the lead at the end of round 2, dropped to T5 after a disappointing 3-over 73 in his third round. LIV’s Bryson DeChambeau sits solo in the fourth position after carding a 70 on day 3.
