With a history of over a century, the Wanamaker trophy has been big and bulky. Standing 28 inches high, it has been awarded since 1916. Although the original trophy remains at PGA America, in Frisco, Texas, a replica circulates among the winners. However, the trophy never ceases to become a symbol of victory, and for all the winning golfers what is a better way of celebrating their victories without a little boozeHere we present three of the most memorable moments in golf history when the Wanamaker trophy was used as an ancient chalice to drink religiously after the golfers’ victories:

#3 The Reigning PGA Championship winner chugged with his friend right from the Wanamaker

Right after his 2023 win, the three-time PGA Championship winner, Brooks Koepkawas riding high. In the video that was shared on X, he was seen drinking beer from the Wanamaker. NUCLR Golf shared on their handle, “Brooks went last night drinking out of the Wanamaker. It was filled with 18 beers.” Not only that, Koepka, being a huge Panthers fan as he is did not stop his celebrations soon.

After Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes commenced, he was seen with Tkachuk. To celebrate with him, Koepka took his Wanamaker and let Brady Tkachuk chug from it. According to SBNation, “He filled the Wanamaker Trophy with beers and shared it with Brady Tkachuk after the Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the series.”

About a decade before Koepka’s way of celebrating with his Wanamaker, Jason Dufner had completed his challenge with the trophy.

#2: Jason Dufner finds out how many bottles of beer can fit in the Wanamaker

The 2013 PGA Championship at Oak Hill was claimed by Jason Dufner. It still remains the only major win by a golfer who has about five PGA Tour and two Korn Ferry Tour wins. Apart from sleeping with his Wanamaker Trophy, the golfer had confessed other shocking discoveries. In his interview with the Howard Stern Show, he also affirmed that the Wanamaker can hold as many as forty-three beers. And to this day, no one has questioned Dufner’s judgment.

Yet another time there was liquor sipped from the Wanamaker, but unlike Koepka’s or Dufner’s beers, this golfer had some wine in his wife’s name.

#1 Phil Mickelson’s $450 wine sip from the Wanamaker

With his second PGA Championship win in 2021, Phil Mickelson was joyful. After all, he became the oldest major winner ever! He celebrated his wife’s birthday with a special wine and a special cup that included the component of victory. He wrote on his X handle, “Brought the Wanamaker to Amy’s birthday celebration. The wine had an extra ingredient this time—just a dash of VICTORY. Tastes so good!”

After Mickelson revealed his favorite wine by Tor Kenward, the sales went high up in an instant. According to USA Today, the wine in context, Black Magic, a Cabernet Sauvignon that retails for $450 a bottle, saw exponential popularity instantly. They wrote, Winemaker Tor Kenward told the Chronicle that they only made about 3,000 bottles of the wine in the first place and they were down to about 15 cases at the winery when Lefty posted his video.”
