It’s the seventh event of the season on the Jay Monahan-led circuit. More importantly, it’s the 2024 PGA Tour debut of Tiger Woods. The 98th edition of the tournament is slated to be held from the 15th of February until the 18th at the Riviera Country Club. Interestingly, being a signature event on the circuit, it would only boast a field of 71 professionals duking it out on the greens.

The group of 71 golfers would be battling it out for a cut of a $20 million prize purse and 700 FedEx Cup points. Meanwhile, the community becomes naturally curious as to what criteria an athlete needs to fulfill to become part of such a limited-field event and have a shot at the rewards mentioned above.

The third signature event of the PGA Tour schedule will have a 36-hole cut for the top 50 and ties. But, to get to the same, a pro has to qualify for the event that the 48-year-old hosts. What are they? Well, the majority of the field at the tourney would showcase a total of 41 golfers from the top 50 players on the 2023 FedEx Cup points list.

Aside from the top 50, there are many other standards according to which the field is determined. The other criteria include professionals who are part of the Aon Next 10 (51–60 in the 2023 FedEx Cup fall standings), the leading finisher from the Race to Dubai rankings, the Aon Swing 5, 2024 PGA Tour event champions, sponsor exemptions, the top 30 in the OWGR, and the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption.

Moreover, the field also features a total of 15 past major champions, including Collin Morikawa, Jordan Spieth, and others.
